Who is The Web Agent?

TWA was formed by Del Maxwell in 2001 in New Hampshire. It was primarily a design and search engine optimization company for the first few years. I created and marketed many dozens of sites for small clients and as a sub contractor for other agencies in Northern Massachusetts and Southern NH. Since adding PHP/MySql to the toolbox in 2004, I've developed many types of custom PHP website applications including: product label printing system, complex relational searches, news aggregation, connecting real estate sellers to buyers, MSDS document retrieval system, financial calculators, sales funnels and more.

What about services for local Maine businesses?

Fast Forward to today, and I have relocated to Southern Maine about 20 miles from Portland. I still provide creative design, development solutions and SEO services to many of my original clients from Mass. I've also added many new happy customers locally in York County, Maine towns such as Kennebunk, Arundel, Wells, Biddeford, Ogunquit, Sanford, York, Berwick, Saco and Scarborough. I always like to work with local folks but I can be just as effective for a client on the other side of the country as I can be for one nearby.

What's TWA about?

It's my company's philosophy that educating my clients is in their best interests. Knowing all the options helps them be able to make the most informed, strategic decisions. That improves their bottom line in many ways. I've helped companies make more sales, lower costs, maintain customers, data and content management, gain new business, get more website traffic, earn donations, easier web site maintenance, and much more. Potential clients are usually surprised to learn how I can make life easier for their organizations. There are no charges for inital consults and I don't bite, so contact me today to learn how I can make your organization's life easier.

Why should you call me?

I know there are a lot of awesome developers out there you could contact. There are also a lot of do-it-yourself platforms and website makers. They do a decent job for reasonable prices. However, if you need customizations or additional features, you may be out of luck with them. What is so great about The Web Agent? What should cause you to call me instead of another agency? Expertise. Creative. Analytical. Efficient. Proactive. Honesty. Simplicity. Smart. Those qualities are not always so easy to come by. You will find them here.

Professional reviews:

"Working with Del was simply a wonderful experience. He listens, is knowledgeable, patient and will guide you in what is only in your best interest, in whatever your needs are. You'll be glad you called him. He's terrific."

"Del has been excellent to work with. Always responsive and very flexible in meeting the needs as they arise with our website (and it can be a lot and often!). He has been great!"

How much will it cost?

The price depends mostly on the layout quality, the complexity of the features in your site and the overall size. I do my best to keep costs affordable. The average project ends up costing about $3,500 but some have been as low as $1,000 and others as high as $60K. Most likely, your site will be somewhere between $2,000 and $4,000. I provide free estimates so give me a call or shoot me a text to let me know what you need to have done. My number is 207-337-0313.

What about after my project is done?

I keep an eye on anything that I recently completed, looking for problems and to see what's working well. I am always available to maintain and update your site if you need. I bill by the hour for maintenance and send out invoices once per month. Is your site running on a system like WordPress? You will need to keep WP and all its plug-ins updated monthly. It's also important to run a backup everyday. I can make all that happen.

Why aren't there any pages in this site?

I don't have a bunch of pages to bore you with. This is just a simple web page to advertise this company's services. There's no reason for me to explain the inner workings of website development or educate people on SEO. There are plenty of educational sites for that. The Web Agent is a business, not a school. I also don't write articles to post on other sites in order to show off and get Google points. And I don't really market myself on social media either. I find it annoying and I just don't have time because I'm usually working on something. And I don't want to spend my nights making videos and posts about what I did all day. No thanks, I'd rather play my guitar or go fishing.

A little rant about Google

<opinion>

The following is the only information I will offer. This is just my opinion. Others may certainly feel differently. This may only apply to smaller, local companies with a minimal online footprint. Google says not to build a site for search engines. Instead, you should make it for users. I agree. However, it's a bit surprising that Google says that, but also tells us all the things that need to be done in order to show up in their search results. W-W-W-What?!?!? Why would anyone need to know how to make their site show up on search engines if they aren't supposed to be making their site for search engines? That makes no sense to me.

Besides that hypocrisy, their algorithm is just not what it used to be from what I've seen. Want to see an example of how atrocious Google's search results can be? In the following image from July 26, 2024 at 6:30 AM, you will see the results I got searching for 'web designers Kennebunkport'. You can see that the local map does a good job of returning at least a couple results that would make sense for the searcher's intent. However, the organic results are not relevant in regard to that intent in any way, in my opinion. At least not in a way that any reasonable user would intend. There was not even one Kennebunkport web designer in the first 10 organic results. I know there are at least three or four firms here in town who all have websites. Instead of their sites, Google offered links to the official town website, doorway pages for a website company from another town, a hotel, an interior designer, a directory site, and a local chamber of commerce listing. Why were none of the expected companies listed in the top 10? That's a great question. Did this demonstrate that Google has its finger on the scale beyond their algorithm? Who knows. Either way, in my opinion, Google failed in this case because their organic results didn't include at least ONE direct link to an actual web designer from Kennebunkport. Good grief!
