Content Development

Do you want business from your site?

If so, then you need to be prepared for a long term commitment. Traffic is not always easy to come by for a new site unless you join a pay per click program.

Besides expensive advertising, the next best thing you can do is to develop unique content and tools that attract links to your site. If you believe you will "build it and they will come", you're mistaken.

The internet is in essence, a giant library. Considering it's a library that carries endless amounts of information, if you really want to stand out, you have to find a way to set yourself apart from the rest of the pack.

If there are 100 other sites that offer the same products or services that you do, why would a consumer choose you over the other 99? Is it because you have a prettier logo or your buttons change colors when you mouse over them? I doubt it.

Avoid tricks and overdoing it.

Many sites have a Flash introduction page that automatically forwards to another page upon completion of the intro. Most visitors skip these introductions, but that's another story...

The point is, would you like to listen to the cashier at the local coffee shop do a song and dance before you could get your coffee?

What web surfers want, is to find detailed, unique information and tools for every topic imaginable. Provide unique info or tools, and you will succeed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that your site shouldn't be professional. It definitely should be.

Just consider that if you invest a lot of time and effort on a logo, graphic designs, and other branding exercises, why would you not spend AT LEAST that amount of time developing an online resource that is actually worth linking to?
